“ So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:6-

Why would people want to give up heaven?
This is a brilliant question because it shows you have a real belief and delight in your destination. You’ll have to allow me to go on a wee tangent for a minute:
Some Christians talk about how it’s “better to journey in hope than to arrive”. This comes from the idea that as Christians we’ve just got to have hope, make the most of life and try and lead fulfilled existences with a bit of purpose because we don’t really know what happens at the end of our lives…we don’t really know if there is a heaven or what it will be like. THIS IS WRONG.
Once we can grasp the Biblical picture of eternal life in our Father’s presence then we can delight in knowing that the best is yet to come.
We will be made perfect, clothed in the righteousness of Christ and the final bits of our selfish, sinful human natures will be thrown away and we will be able to perfectly worship our God and delight in all his blessings. ‘Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to al who have longed for his appearing.’ 2 Timothy Ch 4 v 8
So to return to your initial question: many people don’t realise what they are turning their back on, not just in this life but in the one to come.
Some don’t want to see because it means putting God first (see the rich young man
in Luke Ch 18 v18-
Some have just not been told of the Gospel of God’s grace which tells of new, eternal life in Jesus through faith and repentance.
I finish with asking the same question you’ve just asked: Once we truly see the rags of our sin and then look at the riches offered in Christ and the home he has prepared for us in Heaven, how could we possibly turn away?
