How can I be saved by God if I want to become a Christian?
Your question is on the right track by acknowledging that it is through God that we are saved and not through something that we can do ourselves.
The simple answer is to ask God (through prayer) to forgive our sins through Jesus Christ and to accept us as one of His own. That is easy to say but it’s often difficult to know if anything has ‘happened’ once we have prayed this.
You must accept that you are sinful and turn away from that darkness towards the light of God.
We cannot get to heaven or have peace with God without him saving us from our sins:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
You must believe (have faith/trust) in Jesus: that as God’s perfect Son, his death and resurrection has opened up the way for you to be saved and if you accept this gift of salvation (being saved from the punishment that our sins deserve) he becomes the Lord of your life.
If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
All of the above is a gift from God, even faith! So if we truly want to turn from the darkness and have Jesus as our Lord then God will make it all possible and he will not never let us go.
