Talks & Testimonies

We are taking a look at Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (you can find it in the Gospel of Matthew Chapters 5 to 7) over the coming academic year under the title EXTREME MAKEOVER.

So why do we think this well known part of the Bible is saying something extreme? Well if you take a wee read through it just now you'll see why:

 Jesus says we should rejoice when people insult us about following Him!

 He says we ARE the light of the world!

 If we look at someone lustfully we've committed adultery in our hearts!

 If someone strikes you on the right cheek we're to allow him to strike the other too!

 We’re to store up treasures in heaven not earth!

 We're not worry but just trust in God to give us all we need!

 And most wonderfully, we're to call the Almighty God, OUR FATHER!

As you can tell from the '!' I couldn't help putting after every line, what Jesus is saying seems completely opposite to how we would naturally think about things and live our lives. You see we can only follow these commands of Jesus once we've come to trust him as our Saviour and Lord - once we've come from darkness into the Light. That's why the 'makeover' is so 'extreme' because we've gone from death to life, we've been born again! Only then does God's Spirit live in us, filling us day by day with the love and grace of Jesus and enabling us to keep our eyes fixed on him in all situations.

It don't mean it ain't difficult, as it's like turning a slum of a house into a mansion, but our Loving Father God is the great builder changing us into what Jesus Christ died to make us.
